Position Summary

Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm, is seeking a full-time Groundskeeper to join our dynamic team at our new Westerly community in Erie, Colorado. The Landscaper will create beautiful environments by providing landscape maintenance support to a variety of industrial, commercial, and public properties. The position will safely operate commercial grade landscaping equipment and ensure the upkeep of plant material and other landscaping elements. Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays, beginning at 7:00AM.

Primary Responsibilities

• Cutting turf, trimming and edging along borders, and blowing using power equipment.
• Pruning shrubs and low trees to improve the growth habit or remove damaged branches.
• Climbing ladders and working off camber.
• Carrying heavy loads of materials and equipment carefully.
• Operate power tools.
• Planting and maintaining flower beds, and applying mulch.
• Picking up trash and debris.
• Performing weeding by hand or using a garden hoe or hula hoe or backpack spraying.
• Using all required PPE for safety.
• Maintaining a polite, friendly, responsive demeanor with guests and customers.
• Be driven to learn proper landscape maintenance techniques.
• Listen for instruction and have good communication with the direct landscape supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Functional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers on the phone and in person.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail, and carry multiple projects through to completion.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary.
• Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
• Safety:
  • Ensuring all crew members perform their work safely and in accordance with company policies.
  • Ensuring equipment is in good working order and receives appropriate preventative maintenance.
  • Logging equipment usage and maintenance cycles

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to create and read site maps and/or colored charts/legends

Preferred Education and Experience

• Any horticultural or agriculture classes
• Bilingual in Spanish
• ISA certification
• CDA certifications
