(SMRLS) is seeking to fill a full-time outreach and education coordinator position. The position is based in our St. Paul Midway office location. The ideal candidate will be flexible, as the duties and responsibilities of this position may change as needs arise.

SMRLS is a non-profit law firm which receives federal, state, local, public, and private funding to provide free legal help to low income and elderly people who reside in 33 counties of southern Minnesota. As Minnesota’s oldest legal aid program (founded in 1909), SMRLS has established a tradition of partnership with the private bar, a bi-partisan Legislature, the Minnesota Supreme Court and other Minnesota Legal Services Coalition programs in providing access to justice. SMRLS has an experienced, dynamic staff of 50 attorneys, 39 additional staff and 600 volunteer attorneys to provide legal assistance to over 200,000 eligible persons.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Coordinate and perform general community outreach and education throughout the metro and southeastern Minnesota regarding educational presentations and Hub legal services.
· Assist with SMRLS mobile law office (Justice Bus) outreach efforts.
· Cultivate relationships with agencies and organizations who serve SMRLS’ clients and communities.
· Work with other agencies and organizations to assist in the referral of individuals in need of legal assistance.
· Attend regular New American’s Hub and appropriate subcommittee meetings.
· Assist in the development of educational materials and language specific materials as needed.
· Support legal work related to community lawyering opportunities including investigation and case development. Conduct client intake and eligibility determinations.
· Participate in team and firmwide meetings and report on progress.
· Work with leadership and development to promote SMRLS’ outreach and reputation.
· Handle other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary and appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· A strong connection to the community and prior involvement in community and partnership work is preferred.
· Experience working with diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with low-income clients, victims of domestic violence, and persons of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
· Assist with intake and office support duties as assigned.
· Excellent communication skills, ability to work positively and constructively with others in a team setting, good judgment, and the ability to work hard, independently, efficiently, and under pressure.
· Demonstrated ability to be resourceful, analyze problems, and propose problem-solving solutions.
· Basic computer competence and general office skills.
· Applicants must be willing and able to travel to outreach/education activities and other SMRLS-required activities throughout SMRLS’ service area.
· Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
· Ability to work flexible hours when needed, including occasional evenings and/or weekends during busy outreach periods.
· Applicant will be asked to join SMRLS Union.
SALARY:
$50,656 DOE, according to scale
