Position Title: Minister for Legacy and Church Redevelopment

Position Summary
The Minister for Legacy and Church Redevelopment is responsible for the overall leadership and development of the Legacy Corporation of the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ in alignment and consultation with the vision of the Executive Conference Minister (ECM). In support of church’s as they transition, the Legacy Corporation provides valuable resources and a pathway for collaboration between SNUECC’s Legacy Church Specialists and other Conference staff, under the leadership of the Minister for Legacy and Church Redevelopment. While one form of ministry may be sunsetting, this opens new opportunities for resurrection in ways that are essential for the advancement and furtherance of the mission of the Church writ at large.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership, direction and oversight of the vision, mission, as well as the business and legal functions of the SNEUCC Legacy corporation.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the budget, finances, and resource allocation of the Legacy Corporation in consultation with the ECM and CFO.
- Recruit and supervise consultants who can be engaged to work with congregations or provide leadership development around particular skills or needs during their legacy and/or new church start journey, including but not limited to legacy specialists, and new church start coaches.
- Contributes to the ongoing list of curated resources for assessing church vitality, capacity and viability.
- Develops assessments and tools to help churches move through their legacy journey and into a resurrected future.
- Work with the Legacy Staff to transition churches from a Threshold Journey to Legacy building when they discern a path toward completing their ministry as it exists.
- Support churches that choose to become a new church through a merger, collaboration or satellite arrangement with another SNEUCC church.
- Collaborate and communicate with the Area Conference Ministry Team, Center for Transformational Leadership Director, Legal Counsel, and other Conference staff about needs, realities and resources of a local church before, during and after processes and consultations.
- Manages applications to and repayment of grants from the Threshold & Legacy Fund (or other relevant Conference funds).
- Stay abreast of national trends surrounding best practices for legacy churches and participate in regional and national training and opportunities.
- Provides stories of congregations that have found a path to legacy through the support of SNEUCC that can be circulated via Conference media.
- Serve as a member of the ECM Leadership Team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Have a curated spiritual practice and articulated relationship with God.
- Ability to articulate and demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision and values of the Southern New England Conference.
- Master of Divinity or equivalent education/experience.
- Ordained Clergy/Authorized Minister.
- Experience serving as a legacy church pastor.
- Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to identify gifts of staff, clergy and lay leaders and invite their participation in the aspects of this work for which they seem gifted and called.
- Demonstrated capacity to work with people of many backgrounds, cultures and ancestries and to facilitate bridge-building collaborations.
- General knowledge of traditions and culture of the United Church of Christ.
- Facility with Microsoft Word and Outlook; ability to learn to use Brick River database and Conference Website console.
- Given that the position requires travel throughout the region, adequate transportation is expected.
- Demonstrated ability to speak to congregations about organizational development, vitality and behavior, including leadership capacity, decline, renewal, evaluation, visioning and adaptive change through a Christian perspective.
Conference-Sponsored Events
- The Minister for Legacy and Church Redevelopment will be required to participate in Conference- Sponsored events throughout the year.

Physical Ability - Tasks involve the ability to travel to meetings outside the office, exert moderate physical effort, and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to 20 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and/or repetitive motion.
Sensory Requirements - Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Requires oral communications ability.
Environmental Factors - Tasks are occasionally performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, or pathogenic substances.
