DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The field is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining water utility systems within a defined territory. Someone who applies knowledge, experience, and skills in the field of water distribution and treatment to perform both regular and non-routine tasks in the operation and maintenance of water filtration, water collection, and water distribution facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all aspects of utility operations, sampling, monitoring, and testing required to maintain compliance with Federal State and Local regulations governing the water systems.
- Assist with the installation and inspection of new water and utilities.
- Install water meters.
- Trim trees that are blocking access to meters and wells.
- Ability to fix leaks.
- Performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all plant and distribution and equipment and machinery.
- Perform all work in conformance to Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations.
- Maintain open communications with the supervisors regarding the pump stations operation and malfunctions, as well as make recommendations for repairs and improvements to the systems.
- Perform daily checks of the pump stations.
- Preform on call responsibilities on a rotating basis.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Acquire D Water Works certification from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality within first year of getting hired.
- Maintain valid drivers license and clean driving record.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and/or physical exam. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol testing throughout their employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the duties of this job, the Employee needs to be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Have adequate respiratory function to utilize a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.
- Crawl under vehicles and equipment.
- Holding tools with both hands and all fingers.
- Kneeling in one place for long periods of time.
- Using both hands to operate large hand tools and/or pull such things as hoses or equipment.
- Must be able to hear equipment and verbal communication.
- Must be capable of seeing equipment and gauges.
- Must be capable of standing for long periods of time.
- Must be able to bend over/stoop over for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 60lbs (or with 2 people lift 100lbs).
- Must be able to withstand temperatures as low as 20 degrees for up to an hour at one time.
- Must be able to withstand extremely high temperatures for up to four hours at a time.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, day, or night.
- Works in confined spaces.
- Some exposure to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume, odor, dust chemical, and toxic waste hazards, using proper safety precautions.
- Uses good judgement to work safely and use equipment property.
