A Retail Associate performs various retail and production duties in a mission-based, customer-first environment, focusing on providing excellent customer service, and maintaining an environment that supports a positive experience for customers, program participants, and associates.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operates electronic cash register, handles cash, charge, and check/voucher transactions.
- Prepares cash drawers and related paperwork as assigned.
- Receives, prepares, sorts, prices, and rotates stock for retail floor and conducts quality control.
- Operates department equipment and machinery, prepares goods for sale, procession, or storage.
- Performs inventories, tallies, or other forms of tracking as required for the retail environment.
- Assists GoodWorks staff with implementation of work plans and guidelines as established for client programs, as assigned by store manager.
- Interacts effectively with customers by maintaining providing excellent customer service, resolving problems within the scope of the role to the customer’s satisfaction in a timely, effective, and respectful manner.
- Conducts general housekeeping functions, such as keeping floors clear of items and debris, vacuuming, sweeping areas, dusting, and rest room maintenance.
- Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incident of theft, fraud, waste, or unauthorized possession of company property.
- Works a variety of shifts including evenings and/or weekends as assigned.
- Supports maintaining organization within retail store.
- Safely and correctly operates other departmental machinery as assigned.
- Assists customers with selection and purchases, ensuring the highest level of customer first service.
- Works intermittently without direct supervision.
- Able to prioritize tasks and responsibilities to maintain an acceptable level of productivity.

- Speak and understand the English language sufficient to read materials, communicate with customers and coworkers.
- Able to maintain the physical requirements of the working environment.
- Perform simple mathematical calculations.
- Experience that would lend itself to good customer service is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in a retail or comparable environment is preferred.

- While performing these duties, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. Frequently required to walk and/or stands for up to 8 hours per day.
- Must regularly lift, carry, and/or move up to 20 pounds and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to push/pull and carry up to 30 pounds. Kneels, stoops, and bends frequently.
- Occasional need to push heavy, wheeled carts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and other material handling equipment with loads weighing up to 250 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
- Work is performed primarily indoors in a climate-controlled space. May occasionally perform work in outside weather conditions.
