Position Summary:
The Teaching Specialist is an administrative position that collaborates with faculty and staff to promote social and engaged learning experiences (e.g., service learning and community-based learning) through the design and development of curriculum and instruction. Curriculum includes learning outcomes, assessments, instructional materials, and syllabi, and instruction includes interactive strategies, appropriate technology, and instructional design elements in face-to-face, hybrid, online and flexible environments. Monitors and evaluates advancements in teaching methodologies and technologies to inform and advise the unit and other stakeholders. Often works on multiple projects concurrently and must be able to create project plans and deliver timely results.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in instructional design, adult education, or a related field, or Masters degree in another field with at least three years experience teaching or supporting teaching in a higher education environment.
Experience contributing to curricular or instructional development in engaging, authentic and/or community-based educational settings.
Experience consulting with faculty to ensure effective course and instructional design.
Experience designing and delivering professional development programming for faculty and/or staff in a higher education setting.
Preferred Qualification :
Experience teaching in higher education.
Experience with co-curricular and extracurricular learning experiences such as service learning or community-based learning.
Experience with alternative assessment methods such as Competency Based Learning, Credit for Prior Learning, or ePortfolios.
Experience conducting and/or supporting academic research.
Experience managing projects and/or teams.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Applied knowledge of adult learning theories, course design and development, and distributed learning technologies.
Demonstrated interest in co-curricular and extracurricular learning experiences such as service learning or community-based learning.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
Expertise in project management including leading collaborative efforts, planning, change management, assessment, and reporting.
Strong oral and written communication skills adapted for varying audiences, including various forms of documentation.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and in a team setting.
Strong project and time management skills.
