What are the responsibilities and job description for the MEDICAL RECORDS CLERK position at Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons?
Job Duties:
- Prepare clinics one day in advance for assigned physicians' clinics.
- Check for missing documentation. Call on and scan in documents into the EMR if applicable.
- Obtain missing studies when asked by a technician in a timely manner and relay message back to clinic about the missing study when obtained.
- Check for add-ons and documents that may be missing, obtain and scan.
- Obtain results and send messages to providers for will calls.
- Send records and discs for referrals to outside providers.
- Move documents from the fax que to the appropriate chart or other fax que and send messages to staff if applicable. Print for signature if applicable.
- Assist patients with the release of medical records, billing, or images from third party company.
- Obtain signature for release of information for forms such as FMLA, Disability, Accident, Unemployment, Fit for Duty, etc. Collect payment if owed.
- Answer a high volume of phone calls and respond to voicemails in a timely manner.
- Respond to emails daily.
- Obtain signatures from physicians on paperwork from outside facilities when needed. Scan and fax back to appropriate entities.
- Relay messages to physicians for patient requests and respond to patients in a timely manner.
- Comply with ALL HIPAA rules.
- Record comments in patient charts to ensure good communication and understanding for all departments when issues arise.
- Work with other departments when asked by supervisor.
- Dispose of patient records in appropriate shred bins daily.
