Counter Sales Description

Essential Functions

• Provide customers with extraordinary service, Service Way Service at all times
• Describe merchandise and explain use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers.
• Recommend, select, and obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires.
• Enter and complete sales in computer system.
• Receive and process cash or credit payments.
• Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise
• Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
• Place special orders or call other stores to find desired items.
• Track special orders and provide updates to customers.
• Handle telephone inquiries and orders from customers.
• Maintain sales counter, warehouse, and yard appearance.
• Assemble, pack, and ship customer orders.
• Schedule delivery for customer purchases.
• Load customer purchases in customer vehicle.
• Quote individual prices and develop job quotes for customers.
• Enter warehouse transfers and purchase orders into computer.
• Process incoming and outgoing inventory on the computer system.
• Load and unload delivery trucks.
• Operate a lift truck according to OSHA regulations.
• Unpack and Stock inventory on rocks, shelves, and bins.
• Understand hazardous material warning labels and instructions.
• Develop and implement annual sales action plan for target customer.
• Under general direction, assist in any special projects
• Perform other duties and assignments as designated by Branch Manager

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 1-3 months of related experience preferred.
• Must be capable of being certified to operate a lift truck/forklift.
• Knowledge of industry products and their applications preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Friendly customer-service attitude and ability to interact with customers and Southern Pipe family members in a fast-paced environment
• Sales Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed written information (computer reports, material, customer specifications, etc.) and locate and identify part numbers
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands

• Moderate mobility
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds
• Ability to work extended hours periodically
• Comfortable working in various environmental conditions, including exposure to outdoor weather and occasional exposure to moving machinery, frequent trips to and from the warehouse and yard.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb or balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with arms, grab with hands, talk or hear, and see near and far distances
