Under the general direction of the Tribal Epidemiology Center (TEC) Program Manager and the Native Test Program Coordinator, the Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) will provide a supportive role to the implementation of assigned grant activities and related deliverables.
Summary of Duties:
This position shall provide a variety of public health training, technical assistance and consultation to Urban and Tribal program staff area-wide, as well as to other agencies and to the public. Personnel serving this position shall assist tribal partners with public health communication and creating new Native Test program partnerships. This position shall work closely with Tribal, urban, state, regional and local health department medical, epidemiology and public health staff. This position will demonstrate the ability to identify and work with staff from tribes, other tribal organizations, IHS, State Health Departments, federal agencies and outside agencies.
This position will be responsible for helping and supporting individuals in the community acquire preventive prophylaxis care by connecting patients to a medical provider skilled in assessing and treating for HIV prevention with pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). This position is expected to help patients secure PrEP, conduct patient follow-up, and participate in PrEP promotional campaigns, outreach, data entry and other duties as needed.
This position includes supporting participates in disease outbreak/cluster investigations; disseminates results of investigations, special studies, routine surveillance, and analysis of health outcome data to tribes; assists with public health programmatic planning and evaluation; may serve as a resource to assist individuals, other healthcare workers, or the community; and performs other related duties as required. This position will mail out HIV self-test kit orders from the Native Test Program, and work on all other syndemic programmatic activities.
Disease Intervention Specialist are required to follow all designated scripts and comply with policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and data security for the handling of sensitive client information and protected health information.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma required, bachelor’s degree in health-related field preferred.
- Experience/Field: Typically, 2 years professional experience in an office setting, experience specific to the job or in a related field.
Knowledge / Special Skills:
- Must have and be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, presentation skills: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely through effective oral communication, written reports, and presentations.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff at all levels of an organization, agencies, providers, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in community outreach and engagement
- Demonstrate knowledge and desire for increasing access to healthcare services
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects; self-motivation skills; work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to build positive work relationships with internal and external partners; ability to interact
professionally with the public, maintain confidentiality. Experience working within tribal communities, especially within public health fields, is highly preferred.
