Overview
Southern Preparatory Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and mission-driven Social Studies Teacher to lead engaging instruction for 7th & 8th grade and middle school cadets. This role is instrumental in helping students understand the foundations of history, civics, geography, and economics, while fostering critical thinking and leadership in alignment with the Academy’s values and whole-person educational model.
Ideal candidates will inspire young people to become informed, responsible citizens and future leaders, while supporting their character development through both academics and daily interactions.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate instruction in U.S. History, World History, Civics, and Geography.
- Use project-based learning, inquiry-driven instruction, and primary source analysis to build student understanding.
- Align lessons with state standards, school curriculum, and the Academy’s strategic emphasis on leadership, civic responsibility, and real-world problem-solving.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of middle school learners.
Student Support & Engagement
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages discussion, respect, curiosity, and critical thinking.
- Uphold a structured classroom environment that reinforces student accountability and discipline.
- Monitor student performance through assessments, assignments, and classroom participation.
- Communicate regularly with parents and academic staff regarding student progress.
Professional Collaboration & School Culture
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and academic initiatives.
- Support school events, student leadership initiatives, and extracurricular programs.
- Model professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to the Academy’s values of faith, discipline, and excellence.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, History, Education, or a related field
- Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain one in Alabama)
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills
- Passion for working with middle school students in a structured, values-based environment
Preferred:
- Teaching experience at the middle school level
- Experience in private, boarding, or military-style school settings
- Familiarity with integrating civic leadership or character education
Willingness to participate in extracurricular or leadership development programs

Pay: $32,500.00 - $36,000.00 per year
