Southern Preparatory Academy is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Spanish Teacher to join our academic team. This role is key in helping students gain fluency in Spanish while fostering cultural awareness and global citizenship. Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based Spanish instruction for grades 8–12, with an emphasis on communication, vocabulary, grammar, and culture.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including immersion, real-world application, and technology integration.
- Align course objectives with state standards and school goals, including preparation for college entrance and AP-level Spanish (if applicable).
- Design assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction.
Student Support & Classroom Culture
- Create a structured, respectful classroom environment that supports language acquisition and personal growth.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of various language learners, from beginners to more advanced students.
- Promote an appreciation for Spanish-speaking cultures through lessons, projects, and community connections.
Collaboration & School Involvement
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and participate in school-wide initiatives aligned with Southern Prep’s strategic priorities.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and academic advisors regarding student performance and progress.
- Participate in school events, academic ceremonies, and extracurricular activities as needed.
- Uphold and model the Academy’s core values of integrity, discipline, faith, and excellence.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, World Languages, or related field
- Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain one in Alabama)
- Strong instructional and classroom management skills
- Passion for working with young students in a mission-driven, values-based environment
Preferred:
- Native or near-native Spanish fluency
- Experience teaching Spanish at the middle or high school level
- Familiarity with military-style or private boarding school settings
- Experience with curriculum development or AP Spanish coursework
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $32,500.00 - $36,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
