Job Title: Counselor

Job Summary:
The counselor is responsible for organizing and providing direct counseling services to patients in the outpatient setting. The counselor provides services to patients including but not limited to program orientation, individual counseling, group therapy, assessments, evaluation, and intakes. This job description does not suggest or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee. The counselor will be expected to retain a caseload of clients and hold retention to the best of their ability. To retain a caseload, the counselor must possess the necessary skills to be empathetic and make the client feel that their needs are being met, as well as ensure that treatment goals are being met. The person in this position will be required to follow other instructions and to perform other duties as assigned by the clinical director.
Education and Experience, Certificates, and Licenses:
- Licensure as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or Licensed Addiction Counselor Associate (LAC-A) by the South Carolina Board of Examiners. Full licensure must be completed within a three (3)-year period from the date of hire as a Counselor.
Or
- Certification in Addiction Counseling (ADC/AADC)
Or
- May possess a master’s degree in the human service field, or is in the process of obtaining a master’s degree.
Or
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) strongly preferred.
Or
- Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) strongly preferred.
Or
- Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) strongly preferred.
- Must have extensive knowledge of SUD and recovery.
- CPR certification required.
Duties and Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited to:
The counselor will provide culturally competent services in multiple areas of treatment including but not limited to:
- Screening and evaluation of individuals and refers them as needed to other treatment/service programs available in the facility and in the community.
- Program orientation to individuals and families.
- Provides biopsychosocial assessments and updates as needed.
- Serves as the primary case manager.
- Delivers therapeutic services using evidence-based, best practice approaches with individuals, families, and groups as determined by the individual through their treatment plan.
- Completes accurate clinical documentation within the timelines and guidelines consistent with agency standards, rules, and regulations, including diagnosis using the DSM 5. Use collaborative documentation whenever possible.
- Completes annual training requirements by attending seminars and other educational opportunities to develop professional skills and abilities.
- Individualized treatment plan created in collaboration with the client to include evidence-based practices.
- Provides culturally competent services and seeks supervision and training when needed.
- Maintains professional standards and follows the treatment policies and procedures of the facility, and of the federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized treatment plans based on ASAM criteria.
- Coordinates and cooperates with staff or other agencies and organizations to expedite treatment for each patient and for their continuum of care.
- Attends regular staff meetings and in-service training for clinical personnel.
- Maintains accurate and current records on each patient in accordance with ASAM and according to the facility's procedure for patient records.
- Prepares progress reports and provides them to the courts, probation departments, families, and referral sources when appropriate.
- Advocates for the patient and the family.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Program Director.
- Completes all required training per state and agency requirements

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
