Job Summary: The Commercial Credit Underwriter III provides extensive analytical underwriting support for the making of credit decisions at an advanced to a high level of complexity. The Commercial Credit Underwriter III usually works independently and requires little, if any, guidance from the Credit Underwriting Manager in performing his or her duties. Also, the Commercial Credit Underwriter III may be required to review the work of other Credit Underwriters.
Listing of Key Responsibilities:
(1)Analyzes customers or potential customers financial statements and recommends a risk grade relative to a loan request and provides detailed information including spread sheets on financials, global cash flow models, industry trends, ROE models, exceptions to policy, and any other relevant data regarding a potential loan.
(2)May assist Loan Officers with the writing of a narrative relative to a loan request, history of the business, guarantors, etc.
May assist Loan Officers with the sales proposal process.
(3)Accompanies Loan Officers on customer and prospect calls as requested.
(4)Attends Officers and Directors Loan Committee Meetings when requested.
(5)Develops a working knowledge of assigned customers and prospects.
(6)Assists with monitoring information concerning customer performance and industry trends to determine if current loans continue to be acceptable risks by tracking financial statements, covenants, appraisals and insurance; updating risk ratings; and updating loan status reports.
(7)Performs job responsibilities with an understanding of the importance of and in compliance with applicable Bank policies, procedures and processes, as well as applicable external laws and regulations.
(8)Represents the Bank in his or her assigned market area by becoming involved in the civic, cultural, charitable and/or educational activities of the community.
(9)Training all analysts and underwriters and assisting credit underwriting manager with supervisory duties
(10)Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Required: Undergraduate Degree (preferably in Business, Finance, Accounting or a Related Field) and formal Commercial Credit Training (Sponsored by RMA or equivalent) is preferred. Formal banking training in general would be a plus.
Experience Required: 5 years of credit analysis/underwriting experience.
Knowledge and Skills Required: Extensive knowledge of analytical techniques required for analyzing and underwriting commercial, business banking and private banking loans and all applicable laws and regulations relating to these banking fields. Extensive credit analysis/underwriting skills are specifically needed to determine the customer needs and credit worthiness. Advanced verbal and written communication, organizational, time management and technology user skills are needed.
Key Business Relationships: Interacts internally with CCO, Credit Underwriting Manager, other Credit Underwriters, Operations Officer, Loan Operations Manager and staff, County Presidents and other Loan Officers. Will often be called upon to join Loan Officers in interacting externally with existing and prospective loan customers.
