What are the responsibilities and job description for the Claims Assistant position at Southern Vanguard Insurance Company?
Purpose: Supports insurance claim examiners at a property-casualty insurance company with claims processing and handling. Receives incoming emails and phone calls and routes to appropriate staff. Assists staff with document management and performs other administrative functions as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Receives insurance claim notices of loss via phone or webform, verifies coverage, and files in claim management system
· Reviews and uploads claim documents into the claim management system
· Receives incoming claim emails and properly routes to system and notifies the claim examiner, claim manager, and/or legal counsel
· Receives claim phone calls and assists callers with claim documentation and other claim requests. Directs callers to appropriate claim examiner
· Uploads and attaches documents and makes notes in the claim management system
· Reissues claim checks upon request and documents reissued checks in the claim management system
· Responsive to email requests and call back requests within 24 hours
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills
· Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
· High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
· Proven experience as an administrative assistant or similar role
· Working knowledge of insurance terms and concepts
· Bilingual – can read, write, and speak English and Spanish
· Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
· Ability to lift up to 10-20 pounds
