Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will provide support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. You will work closely with clients to develop personalized treatment plans, facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, and assist in their recovery journey. Your expertise in addiction medicine and crisis management will be crucial in helping clients achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being.
Qualifications
An individual licensed in the State of Alabama as a:
- Professional Counselor, Certified Social Worker, Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Physician’s Assistant, Physician; or
An individual who:
- Has a master’s Degree or above from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, counseling, psychiatric nursing, or other behavioral health area with requisite course work equivalent to that of a degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or psychiatric nursing, and
- Has successfully completed a clinical practicum, and/or
- Holds a substance abuse counselor certification credential from the Alabama Association of Addiction Counselors, National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, Alabama Alcohol and Drug Association, or International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, Inc.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments to determine the appropriate level of care.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to each client's needs.
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, providing a safe environment for clients to share their experiences.
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Provide crisis management support during critical situations, ensuring client safety.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Educate clients on addiction medicine, coping strategies, and relapse prevention techniques.
- Offer support for co-occurring disorders, including PTSD care when applicable.

- Familiarity with PTSD care strategies to support clients with trauma histories.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
