The SPLC is seeking an Executive Assistant who is passionate about racial and social justice! 


The Executive Assistant provides executive support to the Executive Vice President, Chief of Programs and Innovation (EVP/CPI). They serve as the EVP/CPI’s primary point of contact for internal personnel and external contacts. The Executive Assistant also serves as a liaison to the board of directors and organizational leadership teams; organizes and coordinates outreach and external relations efforts; and oversees special projects. They work on projects from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion. The Executive Assistant must be able to strategically manage and book the EVP/CPI's business and travel arrangements, plan meetings, filter requests and sort/filter mail and/or emails of a confidential nature.

Effectively communicates in both written and verbal formats, including drafting emails, memos, and reports, while actively listening to understand the needs of the executive and stakeholders, maintaining discretion, and collaborating with team members and departments. Builds strong professional relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders, demonstrating emotional intelligence by being sensitive to others' needs and concerns when representing the executive.

Software Proficient. Demonstrates proficiency in office software, especially with Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and can quickly learn and adapt to new tools to enhance efficiency.

Adaptable. Exhibits strong problem-solving skills by quickly addressing unexpected challenges, proactively anticipating issues, showing initiative while adapting to shifting priorities, and remaining calm and effective under pressure, especially during busy or high-stakes situations.

Proactive. Takes initiative by leading tasks without constant direction, anticipating needs, and planning ahead for meetings, travel, and projects while being dependable, punctual, and consistently following through on commitments with diligence and a high level of accuracy and responsibility.

What You'll Do

Manage and organize financial, operational and administrative documentation, create and update reports and schedules, and other administrative duties assigned by the EVP/CPI.

Complete a broad variety of administrative tasks for the EVP/CPI including managing an active calendar of appointments; vetting media and speaking requests; completing expense reports; maintaining comprehensive and organized physical and digital files; coordinating office supplies and equipment procurement; arranging complex and detailed travel plans, itineraries, and agendas; and compiling documents for travel-related meetings.

Communicate directly, and on behalf of the EVP/CPI, with Board members and others on matters related to the Center’s programmatic and organizational initiatives.

Coordinate meeting logistics, including arranging conference rooms, preparing agendas and compiling necessary materials, and supporting strategic planning by collecting and organizing relevant information.

Facilitate questions regarding policies and procedures and/or direct the issues to management or appropriate staff.

Research, prioritize, and follow up on incoming issues and concerns addressed to the EVP/CPI, including those sensitive or confidential. Determines appropriate course of action, referral, or response.

Provide a bridge for smooth communication between the EVP/CPI and internal departments, demonstrating leadership to maintain credibility, trust, and support with all staff.

Complete critical aspects of deliverables with a hands-on approach, including preparing and editing documents, executive level presentations and summaries, reports, and correspondence, while maintaining confidentiality for sensitive deliverables.

Prioritize conflicting needs; handle matters expeditiously and proactively; follow through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures; assist and act in a confidential capacity to the EVP/CPI who formulates, determines, and effectuates labor relations policies.

Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

Minimum Qualifications 

We are committed to equitable hiring practices; therefore, you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in one-on-one support of c-level executives;
  • Experience preparing internal and external communications; and
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Compensation & Benefits

This is an non-exempt role and the minimum starting salary is $73,832 ($35.49/hr.) annually.

Where & How You'll Work 

This role has the following work designation options: 

  • Telework:  Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.
  • This position will report to the Executive Vice President & Chief of Programs and Innovation.

Other Special Considerations 

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
