- Maintain City buildings and facilities by repairing, remodeling, renovating, and/or replacing physical elements with emphasis on carpentry and other related building trades; advanced carpentry work such as rough carpentry and framing, cabinet making including wood and metal finishing.
- Installation/repair of plastic laminate paneling, drywall, ceiling panels, floor tile, linoleum or composition floors and carpeting, doors, hardware, desks, and other office furniture.
- Installs glass windows, display cases, interior wall, and tabletops.
- Use of stains, paints, glues, epoxies, and special adhesives.
- Repair covered roofs with roofing materials such as composition shingles and asphalt or gravel.
- Works with concrete using approved masonry techniques.
- Estimates project hours and required materials for completion of jobs.
- Direct staff and contract personnel on building projects when required; provides consulting and design services as necessary.
- Purchase materials for special projects and/or repairs.
- Performs related support activities including, loading and unloading supplies, moving furniture and other miscellaneous tasks.
- Metal fabrication, including drilling, tapping, threading riveting, etc.
- Performs related duties as required.
- High school graduate or equivalent; preferably supplemented by training through a vocational school or apprenticeship program.
- Journeyman carpenter classification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in building construction field with emphasis on carpentry and cabinet making.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety code.
- Experience in all facets of building construction, remodeling, and display work.
- Physical condition sufficient to permit outdoor manual labor under all weather conditions.
- Must possess basic computer literacy skills to utilize Microsoft Outlook.
- Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and meet the City’s driving record standards.
Salary : $51,879 - $77,740
