- Installs, repairs and services the following:
- Mobile radios receivers and transmitters in rolling stock
- Mobile radar equipment in assigned public safety vehicles
- Emergency lighting, sirens and associated controllers for this equipment
- Coordinates the installation and maintenance of two-way radio equipment.
- Installation of non-communication equipment in vehicles (push bumpers, partitions, consoles, equipment boxes, etc.)
- Design and build specialized equipment as needed.
- Provide specifications for system design and development; assist in the evaluation of communications related equipment throughout the City standard bid process.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be high school graduate or equivalent.
- Classes in electronics and radio with technical knowledge and experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of communications equipment or Associates Degree in Electronics or Technical Certification (FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License or APCO Technician Certificate) preferred.
- Minimum of two years experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of communications and vehicle equipment.
- Working knowledge and skill using computers for inventory, log/track job progress and reports for management.
- Working knowledge of practices, tools, equipment and materials, installation, testing, repair and maintenance, and electrical and radio communications theory utilized in radio operations.
- Ability to read and understand drawings, plans, schematic diagrams and sketches of radio and other electronic equipment.
- Ability to locate and repair trouble in communications and radar equipment, sirens, emergency lighting, etc.
- Must be able to schedule work load in efficient and effective manner to minimize downtime and equipment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; and the ability to work effectively with others.
- Available for mandatory overtime (nights and weekends).
- Must possess a valid Michigan Chauffeur driver’s license with a good driving record or the ability to obtain a Chauffeur License within 30 days of appointment. Must pass a DOT physical.

Salary : $54,473 - $81,628
