What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Internship- Technology Services position at Southfield, City of (MI)?
40 hours per week, including day, evening and weekend hours
Interns are an integral part of the Southfield Public Library’s operations. During the Technology Services internship you will work closely with all library divisions. Work on public service desks, providing reference and reader’s advisory service. Gain experience developing and conducting programs through assisting librarians with library programs and classes to the public. Learn collection development and take responsibility for an assigned collection. Contribute to the update, design, and development of the public facing and intranet web sites, and gain understanding of the technology foundation required to sustain a modern public library. The position requires a commitment to serving the public directly and through the support of the library staff and volunteers. The overall goal of the library internship is to provide students with real life public library experience and guidance while working alongside professional librarians.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Current enrollment in a Master’s degree program in Library and Information Science at the time of hire
- Willingness to work collaboratively
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Customer service experience
- Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 and TEAMS
- Experience working with social media platforms, video content creation and streaming video
- Web design and development experience
- Understanding of scripting languages
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- $15.00/hour first year; $16.00/hour second year
