SENIOR RECREATION LEADER
Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Specialist, the Senior Recreation Leader is responsible for directing a wide variety of activities for various ages at a recreation site.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plans, coordinates and supervises recreation activities for a wide variety of age groups attending the programs. Programs include, but are not limited to youth and adult sports, R.E.C. Van and the after-school programs.
Implements activities and provides general supervision over the use of equipment and use of an assigned area or program.
Supervises staff and participants involved in the program.
Keeps track of supplies and notifies the Recreation Supervisor when any purchases need to be made.
Maintains program site and supervises general area including the parking lot.
Attends and participates in regular staff meetings and in-service trainings as necessary.
Acts as the Site Leader in his/her absence in the after-school program.
Officiates youth sports games in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the District for sports programs.
Installs and removes sports facility and/or program equipment.
Greets public and program participants and provides information to public or directs them to proper office.
Communicates effectively and tactfully with the participants and parents or guardians.
Follows oral and written instructions.
Works harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public.
Answers questions regarding various programs.
Performs administrative tasks, such as completing accident/incident reports.
Performs physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) Walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; climb ladders.
Performs under various weather conditions.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written instructions; write and speak English at a level to satisfactorily perform the work; write and speak clearly and concisely; work harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public; train and supervise staff. Organize and conduct groups of all sizes; make quick and accurate judgment calls; enforce rules of the game including special guidelines and policies established by the District; maintain control of sports games at all times; possess general physical abilities necessary to officiate 2-4 games/matches as assigned. Establish and maintain positive relationships with the public and other employees; represent the District in a professional manner.
Knowledge of and Skilled in: Communications, public relations and leadership techniques; working with youth in areas such as arts and crafts, games, performing arts and/or sports.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects, walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; and climb ladders. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform under various weather conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years old. Completion of high school or equivalent is required. Must have a minimum of two years’ experience working with children.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Required to obtain the American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate or be willing to take a class in order to receive certificate.
EMPLOYMENT LENGTH
Seasonal and part-time. As a condition of employment, may be required to work unusual hours, weekends and holidays.
COMPENSATION $17.25-$17.75 per hour
STATUS Part-time; Non-Exempt.
