What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Specialist position at Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA?
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday 2:00pm-6:00pm (School year hours) 42 weeks
Monday – Friday 9:00am-3:00pm (Summer hours) 10 weeks
Requirements:
· Must be at least 21 years old
· Possesses good organizational skills.
· Holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Social Work or a related field or has 3 years of experience working with children with special needs and/or behavioral challenges.
· Has experience reading and implementing IEPs/504 plans.
· Communicates effectively with children, staff and parents.
· Understands the developmental stages of children
· Holds CPR, First Aid and Medication Administration certifications. If these certifications are not held, or have expired, incumbent shall attain these certifications within 6 months of start date.
· Has completed a Physical & Psychological Management Training (PMT). If the incumbent has not completed this training, they shall attend this training as assigned by the School Age Program Directors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the School Age Program Directors, the Behavioral Specialist will help manage and assist in the operations of the YMCA School Age Childcare programs.
Attend all staff meetings, including weekly meetings with School Age Program.
· Conducts monthly observations of sites and completes an observation form after each visit.
· Meet quarterly with each child’s YMCA support team about observations
· Provide guidance to staff and directors related to children's behaviors, special needs support, and education.
· Develop Individual Care Plans (ICP) or behavioral modification plans.
· Communicate ICPs to parents and program staff to ensure mutual consent and understanding.
· Assess, adapt ICPs, and provide additional training, as needed.
· Complete any administrative tasks as needed, including phone calls, behavioral plan creations, etc.
· Assist School Age Program Directors with the placement of support staff.
· Assist the Directors with the evaluation of staff training needs.
· Supportthe Site Coordinators by supervising site in their absence or closing the program site as needed.
· Assist other association childcare programs as directed by School Age Program Directors.
· Adhere to all policies and procedures related to child supervision and abuse prevention
