What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher's Aide position at Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA?
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday 2:30-5:30pm
Requirements:
· Qualified Candidate must be at least 16 years old
· Previous experience working with children
· Works effectively with children, families and other staff
· Able to be certified in Connecticut Child Care, Adult & Child CPR and attain certification within 90 days of employment
· Possess good oral communication, written communication, and public speaking skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Operate all activities and the program with the safety of the participants as your top priority and abide by all applicable risk management policies
· Assist in planning and fully participate in activities while implementing curriculum, lesson plans, program plans and special events according to the theme and structure of our YMCA program
· Ensure that a person specifically designated by the custodial parent(s), as indicated in the child’s file, picks up each child. Ask for photo identification from any parents and adults picking up a child if you do not recognize them. Check the child’s file to ensure that person is specifically designated as an authorized pick up person by the custodial parent or parents on the registration form
· Identify and approach “strangers” in the program area and decipher what they may need or why they are there
· Foster a positive, team-oriented environment. Resolve conflict by addressing concerns directly with co-workers and supervisors and working towards a positive solution to the matter
· Complete all necessary administrative paperwork as requested, such as time sheets, site checklists, etc.
· Ensure that our YMCA program meets and follows State of Connecticut license regulations
· Communicate with parents through direct contact, notes and via telephone. Be available for questions, concerns and suggestions
· Notify parents of any problems, concerns and/or changes
· Monitor, evaluate and follow through on all progressive discipline situations with children and families. Follow the YMCA’s behavior management policy, focusing on positive behaviors and helping children modify their behavior for a more positive result
· Maintain records necessary to track and report children and staff attendance, children rosters and other necessary documents
· Ensure a proper staff to child ratio and ensure substitute staff when you need time off
· Report any suspected cases of abuse and/or neglect to an Early Childhood Teacher or director immediately. Understand your role and obligations as a Mandated Reporter
· Maintain cleanliness and organization at our YMCA program
· Help offer and prepare snack according to the daily snack menu
· Attend all meetings and trainings as required
· Meet regularly with the teachers and Early Childhood Director
· Assist in re-licensing our YMCA program as needed
· Assist in the accreditation processes and in achieving long-range YMCA goals
· Implement accreditation quality standards into our YMCA program
· Operate all programs with the safety of the participants in mind and abide by all applicable risk management policies
· Follow all Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA policies and procedures
· Serve as a YMCA ‘ambassador’ in the Southington community
