Job Title: Diesel Technician

Summary: Knowledge of heavy-duty tires, oil, lube, filter, brakes, tarp assemblies and have physical capability to perform such work. This position assists in ensuring quality control of all semi-truck and trailer equipment owned and leased, as well as other company owned vehicles. Inspect tires daily, repair and replace as needed. Inspect trailer tarps to be sure all systems are in good working order. Repair and replace tarping parts/systems as needed. Do services as scheduled and assist mechanics as needed. Will be responsible for inventory and communicating well with others and report to Shop Foreman.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Under minimal supervision, the Diesel Technician will be responsible for the following:

• Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.

• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.

• Drive trucks with capacities greater than 13 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products, livestock, or other materials.

• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.

• Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.

• Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.

• Crank trailer landing gear up or down to safely secure vehicles.

• Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid, performing minor repairs, or washing trucks.

• Remove debris from loaded trailers.

• Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.

• Operate equipment, such as truck cab computers, CB radios, phones, or global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to operate heavy trucks safely and efficiently, including proficiency in maneuvering and backing up.

• Attention to detail and accuracy in completing paperwork and maintaining record

• Commitment to safety, professionalism, and customer service excellence.

• Must be able to learn or perform work in the following disciplines:

• Hydraulics

• Diesel/gas engine

• Chassis and suspension

• Welding/metal fabrication

• Small tool repair

• Able to perform rigorous physical labor.

• Knowledge of transportation laws, regulations, and safety standards.

Education and Experience:

• 1-5 years' experience.

• Experience or schooling in diesel mechanics.

• Must have or be able to obtain CDL license.

• The ability to handle the steering wheel and other controls is crucial for safe driving.

• Must be able to see clearly and hear adequately to react to road conditions, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

• Must be capable of handling themselves on the road, protecting themselves, passengers, and other drivers.

• Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly throughout the day.

• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel; reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
