Summary
Responsible for responding to 811 and other utility locate requests, ensuring safety during excavation or construction activities, and maintaining accurate records of all locates performed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Must be able to complete the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and meet all the mandatory qualifications.
- Respond promptly to 811 locate requests and accurately locate and mark underground utilities.
- Respond to requests from CHELCO Engineering Department and Southland’s Utility Department.
- Respond to emergency locate requests within a two (2) hour window.
- Utilize specialized locating equipment to identify the exact position of underground utilities.
- Interpret utility maps and as-built drawings to determine the path of underground utilities.
- Communicate effectively with construction crews, contractors, and other utility locators to coordinate locate activities.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all locates performed, including documentation and reporting of any discrepancies or issues encountered.
- Enter completed ticket data into a database accurately and timely.
- Perform and assist with damage investigations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the protection and safety of all parties involved.
- Assist in training and mentoring new locators as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with industry standards and best practices.
- Ability to respond to after-hours or weekend emergencies as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED
- One to three months related experience and/or training
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to complete Utility Locator Training Certification within 1 year of hire date.
