Classification: Full-Time/ Non-Exempt | Department: Teacher

JOB SUMMARY To help students learn subject matter and skills that will prepare children for kindergarten and elementary school as well as contribute to their development as spiritual, academic, and social individuals. All teachers will report to the Preschool Director.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Each teacher should model a Christian walk. No subject content is more important than an application of Christian principles or the development of Christian relationships or character. Modeling is the ultimate importance of Christianity and its applicability to every situation. The teacher will apply the Word of God as the final authority and basis of problem resolution.

2. Teachers should be committed to personal prayer and to regular participation in school prayer time.

3. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; also communicates these objectives to students, as adopted by the school administration.

4. Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.

5. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

6. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

7. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulation, pertaining to teacher and students.

8. Maintains a professional appearance as an example for students.9. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. AA Degree Preferred. 12 ECE Units required.

2. Willingness to continue professional courses as required according to ACSI guidelines.

3. Desire to work with preschool-aged children; specialized training for dealing with that age group is a definite asset.

4. Ability to create and maintain positive relationships and demonstrate an ability to work effectively with administrators, faculty, and staff.

5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with professional educators, parents, and community leaders.

6. Demonstrated ability to utilize and grow with technology in the work environment.

7. Friendly, cooperative manner and patience in dealing with students, families, guardians, and agents, especially where English is not the primary language.

8. Ability to work and communicate with a variety of ethnic groups.

9. First Aid/CPR Certificate.

10. TB clearance within the last four years.

11. All required vaccinations as mandated by state law including Influenza, Pertussis, and Measles.

12. Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.

13. Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986: An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

1. Must be of excellent moral character.

2. Well-developed interpersonal skills and team player. The teacher recognizes that a school is one total school rather than a collection of individual classrooms. Each teacher contributes toward a successful whole. Therefore, each teacher should relate in warm and supportive ways with other staff members. Problems should be resolved through exercise principles described in Matthew 18.

3. Ability to get along with diverse personalities with tact, maturity and flexibility.4. Ability to establish credibility and be decisive – but able to recognize and support the school’s preferences and priorities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting (40%), standing (20%), walking (20%), lifting (5%), climbing (5%), stooping (2%), bending (2%), squatting (6%). Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment includes indoor and outdoor environments and office and classroom settings. Floating desk assignment and/or shared office space may be required; moderate noise levels commensurate to preschool environment.
