Summary:
The Certified Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and storing of supplies, instruments and equipment. This technician will maintain their CRCST certification and stay informed of the frequent advances in Sterile Processing (SP) standards and guidelines as well as surgical instrumentation. Collaboration and communication with compliance officer is required.
Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to:
- Cleans each item according to manufacturer’s instruction and facility policy.
- Ensures that each item is in proper working condition, i.e., alignment, grasp, functionality, etc.
- Applies knowledge on instruments identification and use.
- Prepares trays and individual items for processing according to facility's established policies and procedures.
- Accurately labels each item and tray for use and storage.
- Maintains proficiency in the operation of autoclaves and other equipment for processing items.
- Maintains adequate inventory of surgical items and SP supplies.
- Maintains records and logs of all instruments and equipment (daily tests, PMs, etc)
- Maintains order and cleanliness of the Central Processing Area
- Performs other duties as directed for the efficient operation of the surgery center.
General Qualifications:
- General computer literacy
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) professionally and effectively with physicians, patients and staff.
- Works well with patients, physicians and staff.
- Must have a dependable and professional work ethic.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Detail-oriented, great time management, ability to work independently and with colleagues.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, moderately stressful (yet fun) environment.
- Must have reliable transportation and be punctual.
- Must adhere to confidentiality and HIPAA policies.
- Covid vaccination or proof of exemption.
Education and Experience:
- SPD certification required.
- 1 year experience in SP (ophthalmology SP a plus)
- BLS
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
- Ability to communicate in English.
- Ability to see within normal parameters.
- Ability to hear within normal range.
- Ability to use hands, arms and legs within specifications of the job.
