General Summary:
The Medical Assistant at Southpoint Surgery Center assists in several departments to assure efficient and positive experiences for patients, doctors and colleagues. The MA helps prepare patients, equipment and Operating Rooms for surgery as well as assisting in post-operative care. Responsibilities and tasks could also include inventory management, sterile processing and equipment and facility maintenance. This is a versatile role with varying duties and assignments.
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for turning over and stocking operating rooms.
- Pulls cases to assist in preparing for the upcoming surgeries.
- Assists in sterile and instrument processing.
- Keeps areas neat, orderly and stocked with supplies for Pre-op/PACU.
- Assisting with Femto Laser upon completion of training.
- Assisting materials manager with stocking supplies, inventory and some equipment maintenance.
- Applies general comfort measures when caring for patients.
- Assisting in transferring the patient.
- Assists the PACU team in the post-op observation of the patients. May take vitals and apply modalities if instructed.
- Observes and reports any adverse or abnormal patient response to the nurse.
- Assists the patient upon discharge, using appropriate mode of transportation from the center’s exit to the patient’s vehicle.
- Any other duties as delegated by the appropriate staff.
General Qualifications:
- General computer literacy
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) professionally and effectively with physicians, patients and staff.
- Works well with patients, physicians and staff.
- Must have a dependable and professional work ethic.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Detail-oriented, great time management, ability to work independently and with colleagues.
- Must be flexible to train, learn and assist in other areas of the surgery center.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, moderately stressful (yet fun) environment.
- Must have reliable transportation and be punctual.
- Must adhere to confidentiality and HIPAA policies.
- Covid vaccination or proof of exemption.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- BLS certification
- 1 year of MA experience (formal MA training a plus)
