What are the responsibilities and job description for the Box Sorter position at Southshore Enterprises, Inc.?
United Container has an immediate opening for a reliable, hard working candidate for our box recycling team in St Joseph.
\n- Segregates boxes in the sorting area according to size, type, and condition and places in designated stacks (bales).
- Identify and discard inferior or defective boxes and put them in the baler for recycling.
- Discards other foreign materials and removes dangling tape from used cartons.
- Creates bales or boxes from carts and moves carts to the banding area. Bands and trims tape from good boxes as needed.
- Labels bales with correct descriptive tag and quantity.
- Prepares bales of boxes for storage or shipment.
- Performs cleanup of sorting areas at the end of the shift or as required.
- Performs all duties following United Container's safety manual.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-2 years of related experience working in a similar industry is preferred; additional education may be substituted for years of work experience.
- Ability to read, write, count, and perform basic math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Requires initiative and ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to talk, listen, understand, and follow directions.
- Ability to set priorities and flexibly to reset priorities in a changing environment.
- Ability to pay attention to details.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Mechanical aptitude skills area plus.
- Ability to work overtime as needed by the business.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly required to talk and/or hear to communicate with co-workers.
- Frequently required to bend, twist, turn, kneel, and/or squat.
- Frequently required to stand and/or walk on a concrete warehouse floor.
- Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with a warehouse.
- Safety equipment (PPE) includes but is not limited to a hi-vis safety vest, gloves, and utility knife.
- $15.50 per hour
