Southside Blooms is looking to add a Flower Grower to its team.

Based on the south side of Chicago, Southside Blooms is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is a farm-to-vase florist providing unique and fashion-forward arrangements while maintaining an uncompromising dedication to the environment and its surrounding communities. Role

As a Flower Grower, you will play a hands-on role in cultivating high-quality flowers and ensuring the success of our urban flower farms. Youll contribute to our mission by combining sustainable farming practices with creative problem-solving and teamwork.

Your Core Contributions To The Team

flower cultivation and care

• Plan, plant, and nurture flowers from seed to harvest.
• Monitor soil health and implement fertilization or composting as needed.
• Manage pests and diseases using organic and sustainable methods.
• Prune, weed, and irrigate crops to optimize growth and quality.

farm operations

• Maintain a clean, organized, and functional workspace, including tools and equipment.
• Set up and dismantle farming infrastructure, such as irrigation systems and hoop houses.
• Collaborate with team members to manage planting schedules, crop rotations, and harvest timelines.

harvesting and post-harvest handling

• Harvest flowers at their peak for maximum quality.
• Handle, sort, and package flowers for delivery to ensure freshness and beauty.

About You

Knowledge, abilities, and qualifications

• Proven experience in farming or agricultural management; experience with flowers a plus but not required.
• Strong knowledge of horticulture, crop management, and soil health.
• Excellentorganizational and time-management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor, lifting 50 pounds.

All The Other Stuff

This position reports to the Farm Operations manager and is a non-exempt position.

This is a full-time position, requiring 8 hour shifts that occur Monday through Friday, including evening shifts and/or weekend shifts as needed. Overtime may be required.
