What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Supervisor/LEA position at Southside School District?
PURPOSE/PROFILE: The special education supervisor will have the responsibility for
coordination of special education services district wide.
JOB DUTIES:
Standard 1: To promote the success of all students by facilitating the development,
articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning.
1. The supervisor indicates a vision that shapes educational programs, plans, and actions
2. The supervisor plans and promotes professional development with stakeholders
3. The supervisor monitors teacher/student caseload lists, reevaluations, secondary
transitions, preschool transitions, student transfers, parent surveys, and child find plans
4. The supervisor monitors special education paperwork for compliance
Standard 2: To promote the success of every student by advocating, nurturing, and sustain a
school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional
growth.
5. The supervisor treats individuals with fairness, dignity, and respect
6. The supervisor monitors programs to ensure the needs of students, families, teachers,
and therapists are met
7. The supervisor coordinates and reviews due process procedures concerning referral,
evaluation, and placement with special educators
8. The supervisor monitors the need and availability of technology and other equipment in
special education classrooms and other areas of need for special education
Standard 3: To monitor and evaluate the management of operational systems
9. The supervisor exhibits high-quality standards, expectations, and performances
10. The supervisor completes budgets relevant to special education and ensures budgets
reflect equitable consideration of student learning needs, including technology
11. The supervisor collects, assists, and reviews student and teacher data for Cycle 1, Cycle
2, Cycle 4, and Cycle 7 as applicable to special education
12. The supervisor completes DESE-required reporting, such as Budget Check Lists, AFR
Check Lists, Reports of Equipment, Technology, etc., Excess Cost, Extended School Year,
Catastrophic, and Budget Amendments
13. The supervisor respects instructional time
Standard 4: To promote the success of every student by collaborating with faculty and
community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing
community resources.
14. The supervisor visits classrooms and discusses student learning with teachers
15. The supervisor attends special education conferences as needed
16. The supervisor coordinates resources such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy,
Speech Language Services, Psycho-educational Assessments, Vision and Hearing
Consultants, Transition Consultants, and Behavior Consultants
Standard 5: To promote the success of every student by acting with integrity, fairness, and in
an ethical manner.
17. The supervisor exhibits a high standard of professional ethics
Standard 6: To promote the success of every student by understanding, responding to, and
influencing the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.
18. The supervisor assures the implementation of the rules and regulations governing
special education programs
19. The supervisor participates in ADE, AASEA, or other special education related
professional development in order to maintain current knowledge and disseminate
information
RESPONSIBILITIES:
20. The supervisor is on time
21. The supervisor completes necessary paperwork for the District in a timely manner, such
as Personnel Calendar, Professional Development, Travel Requests, Purchase Orders, and Time Off Requests
22. The supervisor is a team player.
QUALIFICATIONS:
ADE Certified Professional Ethics
Must be a Certified LEA or close to completing certification
