About the Position:
The Assistant Civil Engineer performs professional civil engineering work in planning, design, technical investigation, review and inspection, and construction of public works projects including transportation, hydraulics, and structural engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assign tasks to technical subordinates, review completed work and assist with problem-solving.
- Research codes, standards and industry information sources.
- Develop and revise design and construction standards.
- Implement agency programs and coordinate major projects.
- Investigate and resolve field problems affecting clients and contractors.
- Determine survey, mapping and data collection needs for projects.
- Prepare estimates, schedules and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures.
- Plan check, review and process plans for private developments affecting streets, water and wastewater, drains and related public works facilities.
- Check plans for compliance with agency standards, codes and ordinances.
- Prepare special engineering studies and reports.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline related to the area of assignment. Two years of increasingly responsible experience in engineering work in the area(s) of assignment. Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate.
