What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Specialist - Patient Access - FT position at Southwell, Inc.?
SUMMARY:
The Registrar interviews and pre-admits/admits in-patients to the hospital and interviews and registers all out-patients. They operate an on-line computer terminal, multiple line telephone and performs miscellaneous hospital communications and clerical duties.
- Verifies patient using 2 identifiers at time of pre-registration/registration.
- Verifies patient with legal ID scanned at time of registration.
- Interviews patients or their representatives by phone or in person obtaining personal information or verifying information on file including emergency phone numbers and insurance information.
- Verifies physician signature and date on all orders.
- Verifies valid diagnosis on order.
- Verifies insurance information by checking eligibility on Emdeon/websites/telephone to ensure insurance information is active/inactive.
- Communicates with Physician’s office or necessary PAS area in regards to any insurance discrepancies.
- Screens for Medical Necessity using Care Medic or other Medical Necessity system and communicates with the physicians’ offices for needed information at time of scheduling, pre-registration and registration of patient.
- Understands and completes estimated point of service forms.
- Verifies any communication barriers with patient and completes necessary forms (waiver/barrier).
- Ask all pertinent questions concerning HIPAA regulations and enters information appropriately into system and distributes any information to patient.
- Reviews notes for pre-certification information, medical necessity, and POS estimates in order to discuss account with patient appropriately.
- Enters appropriate notes on all accounts.
- Verifies patient and registrar signature on all admission forms, including consents, advance directive and privacy notice.
- Ensures the correct patient type is assigned to patient.
- Ensures the correct service is assigned to the patient.
- Ensures that the correct admit status is entered into system in a timely manner.
- Ensures that the correct accommodation is entered in the system in a timely manner.
- Ensures that the correct admitting physician is entered in the system in a timely manner.
- Understands and completes the MSP questionnaire to determine appropriate primary insurance at time of pre-registration or registration.
- Scans documents to correct document type in ILE.
- Keys information into computer to admit/register emergency, outpatients, inpatients or 24 hour observation patients in a timely manner.
- Makes sure productivity levels are in line with expectations set by leadership.
- Identifies correct patient, placing correct armband when required or verify with the patient prior to sending patient to the department and sending correct medical records to appropriate department(s).
- Completes check off sheet to verify all registration information has been completed.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized as well as functional under stressful conditions.
- Completes all required projects/reports in a timely manner.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.

- High School Diploma or Equivalent

Salary : $28,300 - $35,800
