SUMMARY:
The Physical Therapy Aide is a non-licensed person who aids the Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant in the provision of PT services and whose activities do not require technical training through a formal course of study. Duties may also include various clerical functions as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assists the physical therapists and assistants with provision of patient care.
- Functions as a part of the therapy team in provision of information regarding patient's mobility status to the nursing team.
- Assists with therapy equipment.
- Assists with the maintenance of production objectives by being aware of the therapy caseload and responding to needs in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assists Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant in directing patients in use of ambulatory devices.
- Assists with mobility in accordance with the patient’s plan of treatment established by the Physical Therapist.
- Assists with physical therapy equipment.
- Communicates with other treatment team members to relay information regarding patient’s condition/progress as needed.
- Follows safety and infection control guidelines.
- Where appropriate, consistently makes an effort to obtain information for physicians, patients, and guests.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
- Maintains therapy equipment and cleans equipment based on infection control guidelines.
- On the floor and ready to assist therapists within 15 minutes of clock-in time.
- Keep equipment located and organized in the department and on the floor to which you are assigned.
- Assist the therapist with room set-up prior to and following therapy.
- Properly scan patient supplies.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
- Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
- Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
- Attends all mandatory education programs.
- Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
- Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
- Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
- Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
- Manages resources effectively.
- Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
- Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
EDUCATION:
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
