What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front Desk - Salem Campus position at Southwest Baptist University?
Summary/Objective
This position serves as a member of the Regional Campuses Team at Southwest Baptist University. The primary responsibility is to assist with day-to-day operations, recruit and meet with potential students, greet campus visitors, current students, and faculty/staff who visit Southwest Baptist University’s Salem campus.
Essential Job Duties
- Collaborate with the Campus Coordinator for Salem and the Vice President for Regional Campuses and other university stakeholders regarding day-to-day operations.
- Welcome SBU campus visitors and direct them to the appropriate office.
- Track progress of individual applications, acceptance, and enrollment for non-nursing students.
- Provide on-campus academic advising for students in the non-nursing programs.
- Be the on-campus contact for faculty as immediate needs arise during the evening class period; assisting with copying, printing, IT, etc.
- Communicate campus needs to the Campus Coordinator.
- Answer incoming University calls and assist caller as needed, or transfer them appropriately.
- Communicate with instructors on student attendance and follow up with student as needed.
- Assist with IT issues as they arise, including submitting IT help desk tickets and communicating issue to Campus Coordinator.
- Communicate with students when classes have been cancelled or delayed in start time.
- Clerical support for the Salem campus. This may include but not limited to, going to local stores for office/building supplies, data entry, office mailings, and assisting with daily admissions visitors.
- Assist Campus Coordinator as needed with the annual capping ceremony
- Assist in representation during campus tours and at on-campus and off-campus events
- Performing all duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Prepare and maintain daily attendance sheets
- Track daily bills and submit for pay out approval on SBU billing system.
- Regular attendance and punctuality

Position requirements:
- A high school diploma or GED
- Affirm without reservation the University’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values
- Two or more years of office management and/or customer relations
- Knowledge of Microsoft environments, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Willingness to collaborate with the Salem Campus Coordinator and the Vice President for Regional Campuses in duties and responsibilities
- Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to represent the college at recruitment events and conferences
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently
- Demonstrated skill in effective communication and public presentations
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of people and commitment to diversity
- Experience with and sensitivity to diverse populations
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work in a typical office environment.
- Must be available to work varied hours and attend activities away from the office.
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as a personal computer, photocopier, etc.
- Must be able to adjust to occasional high phone call volume.
- Must demonstrate politeness and courteous service to unhappy callers.
- Must courteously and calmly work with heavy walk in traffic on rare occasions.
Physical Abilities
- Occasionally move about the office to access file cabinets, machinery, etc.
- Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time
- Should be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force.
- Must be able to site or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and get in and out of the vehicle frequently on recruitment visits.
