The Varsity Football Defensive Coordinator is responsible for leading the defensive unit of the varsity football team. This role involves designing defensive strategies, instructing players in fundamental skills, and fostering a positive team environment that aligns with the Christian mission of SCS. The Coordinator will work closely with the Head Coach to develop a cohesive and competitive football program while providing mentorship of coaches and athletes in their care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Defensive Strategy and Implementation: Design, coordinate, and implement defensive systems and philosophies for the varsity football team. Collaborate with the Head Coach to establish progression and implementation schedules.
- Player Development: Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. Focus on the holistic development of players, including academics, athleticism, football skills, and spiritual growth.
- Team Leadership: Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the team and the broader school community. Supervise practices, games, and team-related activities.
- Scouting and Game Planning: Analyze opponent strategies and develop comprehensive defensive game plans. Stay updated on technical aspects of football and incorporate new ideas into coaching methods.
- Mentorship and Spiritual Guidance: Actively participate in ministry opportunities such as mission trips, service projects, and advisory groups. Integrate spiritual development into the football program, serving as a Christian role model for student-athletes.
- Communication: Regularly update the Athletic Director and Head Coach about any issues, concerns, or highlights during the season. Engage with parents, faculty, and the broader community to promote the football program.

- Cooperates with administrators, department chairpersons, and other school leadership to support the policies and procedures that pertain to the daily operation of the School
- Demonstrates the ability to accept and carry out responsibilities and make competent, professional decisions
- Eagerly participates in professional development activities and the evaluation process with a desire to grow professionally, spiritually, and personally throughout their education career
- Maintains a professional personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and is in accordance with school policy
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education preferred
- 3-5 years of experience as a defensive coordinator; or commensurate experience as an athlete (college or professional) or other football coaching experience
