What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician position at Southwest Eye Care?
Southwest Eye Care is hiring for a part-time (0.6 FTE) Optometric Technician for our Hutchinson location! This position would work on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

What you’ll be doing: Responsible for providing relationship-based eye care and outstanding customer service. Performs duties included but not limited to patient work ups, ancillary testing, charting for doctors, order and dispense contact lenses, I&R classes, and scanning. Pay rate for this position starts at: $20-$23/hour.
A day in your life might include…
- Assist doctors during clinic times by taking patient health histories, visual acuities, and perform pre-tests requested by the doctors.
- Prepare exam rooms for clinic and close down rooms after clinic.
- Assist doctors during office visits by charting notes in software system.
- Execute contact lens responsibilities including patient contact lens orders, verifying contact lens orders, ordering contact lens trials, and I&R classes.
- Administrate ordering of medical supplies, eye drops used during patient visits, and sample prescription drops.
- Perform other duties include scanning paperwork for patient charts, triaging patients, coordinating medication refills with pharmacy.
- Travel to other offices as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Schedule includes working one Saturday a month
What we need from you
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, multi-task and proceed with objectives without supervision.
- Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
- Basic bookkeeping skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Interpret and dispense optical prescriptions.
- Lensometry knowledge.
- Three years customer service experience preferred.
- CPO, NCLE, or COA certification recommended but not required.
