THE CHALLENGE
Responsibilities include directing procurement and placement of insurance programs including property, terrorism, commercial general liability, umbrella/excess liability, workers compensation and auto. The Director will manage claims, manage relationships with third party service providers including brokers and insurance consultants, identify exposures, recommend solutions, implement approved programs, promote loss prevention, update and monitor compliance with insurance requirements, including various project finance and power contract insurance covenants which may require various waivers depending upon market circumstances. The Director will provide guidance and direction to senior leadership on developments and changes in the insurance markets that impact Onwards projections of insurance premium and deductible expenses.
In addition, the Director will provide insight and support of various Risk Management functions including key counterparty and vendor credit risk, as well as monitoring and quantifying various enterprise trends including risks related to fleet operations, cyber, supply chain and fraud. The Director will support organizational compliance with risk policies through regular risk exposure monitoring and reporting including documenting and reporting risk policy exceptions to the risk committee.
- Oversee and manage insurance policy renewals to ensure continuous coverage and optimal terms.
- Conduct thorough due diligence on potential risks and insurance needs.
- Process and manage insurance claims efficiently, ensuring timely resolution.
- Track and monitor risks associated with the company's operations and projects.
- Ensure compliance with waiver requirements and other commercial and regulatory obligations.
- Prepare and present risk management trend reports to senior management.
THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED
Degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field, or 10 years of experience with material responsibility for industrial insurance programs. Experience with insurance needs of power generation facilities is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in insurance and risk management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully managing insurance programs and risk management initiatives.
- Professional certification in risk management or insurance (e.g., ARM, CPCU) is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of the energy sector and its unique risk landscape is preferred.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel up to 25%, including international travel required for property insurance roadshows
