Shop Service/Heavy Equipment Mechanic

 

Title: Shop Journeyman [Level II] or Master [Level III]                 Job Type: Hourly / Non-Exempt

Supervisor: Service Manager                                                         Compensation: DOE $23.00 TO $36.00

SUMMARY

As a Shop Technician for Southwest JCB, you will be an integral service department member. The position’s primary focus is to perform quality preventative maintenance activities, diagnose and troubleshoot assigned equipment, and complete major repairs through the teardown and reassembly of major systems and components while providing the highest customer service and satisfaction. The shop technician will diagnose and repair various JCB and non-JCB equipment, major systems, and components in a shop environment, completing all required documentation.  In addition, various inspections, new machine preparation procedures, installation of attachments on machines, and machine movements on the yard are duties to perform. JCB North America offers various machine specific online pre-requisite modules and both virtual and in person training opportunities that shop technicians are expected to complete in order to advance their skill sets, pay scale, and careers with Southwest JCB.

 

Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities are a general guideline and not intended to be an exhaustive list of the full scope of responsibilities. Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based on business needs and at management’s discretion.

  • Work in a shop environment on various JCB and non-JCB machines as assigned
  • Troubleshoot machines & systems assigned for completion to verify the condition, failure mode and recommended repairs, trace problems to the root cause
  • Diagnose and repair equipment and components, including fuel systems, hydraulic systems, after-treatment systems, electrical systems, drive trains, transmissions, and diesel engines
  • Properly request required parts to get the repair fixed the first time correctly
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on JCB equipment in a shop environment as directed, following outlined procedures and completing of proper documentation
  • Using company-provided IT hardware, properly document various processes for compliance with JCBNA warranty, new machine intake, and machine sale procedures
  • Complete Tech Web inquiries with JCBNA tech support, use OEM-specific tooling or diagnostic platforms, and all other resources to complete assigned work
  • Incorporate Shop Apprentices to mentor or train on repairs as required by the scope of work or as requested by the Service Manager
  • Communicate the progress of repairs with the Service Manager and the customer to ensure top customer satisfaction.
  • At times, provide in-person or over the phone walk throughs and descriptions of problems to customers
  • Use of company vehicles and special tooling properly, including maintaining all company-owned assets in a clean and safe manner
  • Become proficient with all electronic systems, portals, tooling, and diagnostic resources to be effective in the role
  • Completing all paperwork promptly, including work orders, parts orders, timecards, etc.
  • Account for 65% or greater time on duty against work orders or warranty claims
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by direct management

Qualifications


Education/Additional Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience repairing and maintaining construction equipment and/or diesel engines
  • Preferred competency in repairing and maintaining one of the following system types: Hydraulic, Electrical, or Drive Train (verified through certifications from previous employment)
  • Ability to weld (Stick, MIG, TIG) and use of a cutting torch, or the willingness and ability to learn these skills is a plus
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and basic math skills.
  • Computer literate with the ability to process information, learn systems, and develop skills in the use of IT hardware
  • Ability to communicate, prioritize and maintain time management.
  • Capable of accomplishing tasks independently without direct supervision.
  • Physically able to perform duties and lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Maintain a great attitude toward work.
  • Adheres to company policies, procedures, and practices as required.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • A history of safe work habits.
  • Driven, self-motivated, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Valid Driver’s License/Acceptable Driving Record.
