What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Consultant position at Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center?
Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center (SWLAHEC) is hiring a full time Mental Health Consultant with experience in working with persons with substance use disorder to provide telephone-based consultation, training, and support to perinatal and pediatric providers in addressing the mental and behavioral health concerns of their patients and linking patients and families to appropriate behavioral health services and community resources. The Mental Health Consultant serves on a team of mental health professionals who are providing consultation and training to perinatal and pediatric providers across the State of Louisiana through the two HRSA funded programs the Provider-to-Provider Consultation Line (PPCL). The office domicile for this position is in Region 4. In addition to providing consultation and training services, the Mental Health Consultant is responsible for providing targeted, in-person outreach to providers throughout the state.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A master's degree in social work (or related field) from an accredited school of social work (or related field), followed by three years of professional level social service delivery experience and licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or other independently practicing clinical mental health professional, or Licensed Practicing Counselor (LPC).
- Experience working in perinatal mental health.
Preference will be given to candidates who have training and experience in pediatric and/or perinatal mental health, including a working knowledge of screening practices, clinical mental health conditions and diagnoses, and evidence-based intervention.
Duties:
- Serve as first line responder to consultation calls and address the needs of the caller and/or route the caller to psychiatry and/or resource and referral support staff.
- Accurately complete all program documentation.
- Actively contribute to program development and quality improvement efforts.
- Attend team meetings to provide feedback on consultation and programmatic updates.
- Use clinical expertise to facilitate education training for providers on perinatal and pediatric mental health, trauma, diversity, and other clinically relevant topics.
- Network with available community partners to identify and develop mental health resources within the community for program participants. Work with community partners to develop shared informational sessions and/or professional development activities for providers.
- Provide in-person outreach to providers throughout the state.
Location:Domiciled in Region 4 with office location being Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center (SWLAHEC). Occasional statewide travel for meetings and outreach activities.

Pay: $57,408.00 - $68,577.00 per year
