Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Road Technician to join our team! The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel engines in vehicles such as trucks and heavy machinery. This role requires strong problem-solving abilities, mechanical expertise, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and optimal performance of diesel-powered equipment. As a Diesel Road Technician, you will perform essential maintenance, troubleshoot complex issues, and complete repairs to maintain the reliability and efficiency of our fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive inspections of diesel engines and related systems to identify potential issues and malfunctions.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and interpret test results to effectively pinpoint problems.
- Conduct regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, fluid checks, and greasing to ensure vehicles are running smoothly.
- Replace worn or damaged engine components such as pistons, bearings, valves, injectors, and electrical systems.
- Repair or replace faulty electrical, hydraulic, and other mechanical components.
- Diagnose engine problems by analyzing symptoms and determining the best course of action for repairs.
- Address complex mechanical issues with effective solutions.
- Perform complete engine overhauls, including disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling major engine components as needed.
- Test repaired vehicles to ensure proper operation and performance after repairs.
- Conduct quality checks to confirm repairs are done to the highest standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date repair records and work orders.
- Document parts used and repairs completed for efficient inventory and maintenance tracking.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of diesel engine systems, including fuel systems, combustion cycles, cooling systems, and electrical components.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and interpreting diagnostic codes for troubleshooting.
- Expertise in handling both hand and power tools for diesel engine repair and maintenance.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Strong analytical skills and critical thinking to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
- Ability to lift heavy parts, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods in a fast-paced environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record (as verified by a current DMV report).
- Ability to drive a company vehicle to customer sites as needed.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A customer service-oriented attitude and aptitude.
- Willingness to attend technical training classes as offered by management.
