HEAVY DUTY FORKLIFT OPERATOR
About Us: Southwest Mobile Storage specializes in modifying storage containers for sale or lease. We take pride in our ability to provide high-quality, customized portable storage solutions while delivering outstanding customer service. We are seeking a reliable, self-motivated Forklift Operator. You will be responsible for safely and efficiently handling shipping containers in the yard. This includes loading and unloading containers from trucks, stacking and organizing containers, performing routine maintenance on forklifts, and ensuring that containers are clean, inspected, and ready for use. Pay $21-$24 DOE
Responsibilities:
- Load and unload containers and offices from trucks onto trailers or roll-back trucks.
- Organize and stack containers in the yard for optimal space and accessibility.
- Sweep out containers and clean windows, blinds, doors, floors, and walls of refurbished containers.
- Maintain a clean work environment by ensuring the yard remains free of debris.
- Perform routine maintenance on forklifts, including blowing out, checking fluids, and minor repairs.
- Safely operate a Class 7 forklift to move containers within the yard and work PAD.
- Inspect containers for damages upon return, before loading, and conduct overall quality control (QC).
- Clean and prepare containers, including applying spray paint, caulking, removing and installing signs, stickers, and plaques, checking for holes and door/locking mechanism functionality as needed before loading.
- Perform inspection for holes in walls, roofs and doors, flooring damage, locking mechanism damage, sweeping out and removing debris from containers and recording damages upon return of containers.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on forklifts to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Ensure all work is done safely, following established safety protocols and using safety equipment.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift to 50lbs regularly, with occasional lifting of 75-80lbs.
- Ability to operate a forklift in an outdoor environment.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods while operating a forklift.
- Ability to climb ladders and use power tools and hand tools with dexterity.
- Must maintain situational awareness and practice safety when operating heavy machinery.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- At least 1 year of heavy equipment operation and handling of oversized loads.
- Forklift certification (Class 7 forklift) required.
- Experience with both large and small forklifts is preferred.
- Certification in heavy-duty forklift operation or willingness to be certified by the company’s safety staff.
- Basic carpentry, electrical, or welding experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in English required; basic communication, reading, and writing skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorships available).
- Must pass a 10-panel drug test and a thorough background screening.
