This position requires collaboration across various teams, including Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Settlements, and Congestion Hedging, ensuring the software and processes are consistent with the market design.
Additionally, you will work with market participants, vendors, FERC, and other RTOs/ISOs to set market policy. You will also help coordinate efforts between the WEIS and the SPP Integrated Marketplace, playing an essential role in advancing Western Markets initiatives.

- Lead Engineer range - $135,000 - $158,625
- Sr Engineer II range - $123,700 - $135,000
- Sr Engineer range – $106,500 - $123,700
- Engineer II Pay Range: $88,000 - $98,000

Key Responsibilities
- Market Design & Policy Recommendations:
- Understand and apply the company’s market rules to various business functions.
- Independently recommend and facilitate market design changes through the SPP stakeholder process.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Coordinate and communicate with SPP market participants, member companies, and other stakeholders regarding market design changes.
- Technical Support & Expertise:
- Provide technical expertise and support to SPP committees, working groups, and stakeholders regarding market design issues and changes.
- Support FERC filings by providing data, assisting in drafting testimony, and filing necessary documents.
- Market Analysis:
- Analyze and review market data for indications of market weaknesses and areas for improvement.
- Conduct adhoc analysis to resolve market issues and ensure effective market design solutions.
- Cross-Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with internal teams such as SPP Operations, Legal, Regulatory, and Settlements to ensure market software and processes align with design principles.
- Work with vendors, market participants, FERC, and other RTOs/ISOs in setting and refining market policy.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Document and communicate analysis, studies, and market design changes in written reports.
- Develop and present market design changes to SPP stakeholder committees and working groups.
- Education & Training:
- Review and develop educational materials related to market design.
- Support the training and development of junior-level market design staff.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, this degree should:
- Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation),
- Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering
- Lead Engineer
- 12 years’ of relevant Engineering experience; OR
- 11 years’ of relevant Engineering experience with a Master’s Degree in Electrical, Computer, Industrial, Mechanical or Systems Engineering OR
- 10 years’ of relevant Engineering experience with a Doctoral degree in Electrical, Computer, Industrial, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
- A Professional Engineer license is required for this role; however, 12 years’ relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a Professional Engineer License
- Sr Engineer II - Nine (9) years of relevant Engineering experience; Professional Engineer License or Advanced degree in related field of study may satisfy one (1) year of experience requirement. Two (2) years of experience may satisfy both a Professional Engineer License and Advanced degree in related field
- Sr Engineer - Five (5) years of relevant engineering experience, a professional engineer license, or an advanced degree may satisfy the requirement for one year of experience.
- Engineer II - Two (2) years of job-related work experience
- Proficient at organizing and conducting technical and analytical studies
- Knowledge of electric market concepts and ability to apply understanding in unique analysis
- Ability to support diverse team members and manage complex analysis projects
- Strong facilitation skills
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Competent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office, Excel and Access

- Experience with RTO Market formulations and optimization techniques
- Experience with either prototyping market formulation changes or software used to study market formulation changes

- Experience with data manipulation and analysis of large data sets
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.
- This position requires moderate travel (approximately 10-15%)
