JOB SUMMARY
As a Quality Control Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring that welding processes, materials, and personnel meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements within a shipyard environment. This position combines traditional QC responsibilities with hands-on involvement in welder testing and visual inspections.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct visual inspections and audits of welds, materials, and related processes to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Deliver welder test witnessing services for internal candidates, union members, and individuals from accredited testing centers.
- Evaluate the skills of potential welder candidates through hands-on testing and assessment processes.
- Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date quality records, logs, and audit documentation.
- Work closely with the Quality Control, Production, and HR teams to support hiring decisions and promote continuous improvement.
- Identify defects or non-conformities and assist in implementing corrective actions
- Support compliance with client specifications, shipyard quality procedures, and industry regulations.
Education, Experience and Training:
- 5 to 7 years direct experience on Vessel repairs and new construction activities.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate improvement results with operations Sup/Foremen & welders.
- Detail-oriented with a strong understanding of welding standards (e.g., AWS, ASME).
- Experience in visual weld inspection and/or testing is preferred.
- Able to communicate effectively with welders, supervisors, and other team members.
- Committed to upholding a high standard of quality and safety in all aspects of the job.
- Understand company policies and procedures.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have good communication skills and take good directions from yard manager.
- Understanding of company quality and environmental manuals and procedures described therein.
- Must have the knowledge base of Repair & Construction functions to be able to audit yard activities for compliance to procedures and regulations.
- Must have or be eligible for TWIC card.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
- Barge chemical environment requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing, and the ability to lift and carry in access of 120 lbs, assisted.
- Ability to work in varied conditions (i.e.: heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.), inside and outside.
- Ability to work in confined space/heights and operate equipment safely and efficiently.
