What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping and Receiving Lead position at Southwest Steel Fabrication?
Southwest Steel Fabrication was founded in 1910 and is an AISC certified fabricator in Bonner Springs, Kansas. We perform fabrication for commercial/structural projects and heavy fabrication for Departments of Transportation and the US Army Corps of Engineers. You may have seen our projects or driven across a bridge with components that we fabricated.
We are looking for someone experienced utilizing overhead cranes to take the lead on unloading and loading product and ensure traceability is maintained.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate receiving activities between Production Control and inbound trucks including filing of paperwork
- Unload raw material from flatbed trucks: beams, plate, angle, tubing, etc
- Ensure raw materials are marked to maintain traceability to mill heat numbers
- Receive material into our MRP system
- Perform inventory counts as needed for Production Control
- Assist with material handling in the plant when trucks are not being unloaded or loaded including removal of scrap and drop from the plant to place into scrap containers
- Coordinate shipping activities between Production Control and outbound trucks
- Assist Production Control with Bill of Lading (BOL) generation and distribution including filing of paperwork
- Load finished product onto flatbed trucks
- Identify potential risks and material shortages before they become a problem
Qualifications:
· Very thorough and high attention to detail
· Highly motivated with a strong sense of urgency
· Exposure to MRP/ERP system preferred but will train
· Ability to safely climb ladder to secure lifting devices and position product
· Ability to work in hot and cold ambient conditions
Education/Experience:
· Minimum of 1 year experience operating an overhead crane
· Computer/tech proficiency to receive material into our MRP system and relieve inventory from MRP upon shipment
