Job Summary:
Supports the College Mission to serve students, employers, and the College community. In a part-time role, provides quality education and job skill training in a safe, clean, positive, and productive learning environment. Participate collaboratively and professionally with students, faculty, and staff to promote and improve the college community and its programs.
Essential Functions:
- Provides training and instruction in all phases of firefighting, fire prevention, and salvage operations. Lectures on and demonstrates fire prevention and fire protection methods.
- Instruct students in the use and care of various fire-fighting apparatus and the methods of responding to fire alarms.
- Provides instructions and demonstrates various fire-fighting techniques, including forcible entry into burning buildings, use of portable fire extinguishers, ladder climbing, salvage operations, hose layout, and hydrant connections, use and care of hoses and protective breathing equipment, rescue and first-aid practices and procedures, and methods of extinguishing fires.
- Promotes job readiness, encourages professionalism and good work habits, and assists students in seeking and finding employment.
- Works collaboratively with other department personnel to meet College program and accreditation standards and requirements including completion, placement, licensure, membership hours, headcount, certificates awarded, and retention (graduate completers).
- May maintain student academic records including attendance and module and course signoff as appropriate.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly training area by: ensuring there are adequate supplies to support continuous instruction; monitoring responsible use of supplies and equipment; and requesting and maintaining equipment as appropriate.
- Orientates new students to classroom facilities, technology, and program/classroom performance and behavior expectations, procedures, and safety.
- Works within the assigned program budget.
- Builds and maintains relationships with industry partners.
- May assist in the development and instruction of custom courses.
- Assures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
- Participates in department and college meetings as appropriate.
- Seeks always to promote a spirit of collegiality in dealings with college staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform at a proficient level and to be fully qualified, a person would be expected to have:
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Additional education may be required based on program or course assignments.
Certifications:
Possession of a valid Fire Service Instructor Certificate, Level 1, issued by UFRA, IFSAC, or Pro-Board, and certified at the level, of course, taught at the time.
Experience:
A minimum of three years related industry experience as a paid or volunteer firefighter and/or instructor in the use of various firefighting techniques and procedures in the control and extinguishing of fires in either a paid or volunteer capacity.
Background Check:
Must be able to pass a background check.
Environmental Factors:
Conventional Educational Environment. In some programs, employees may occasionally be exposed to cleaning chemicals and the hazards associated with their respective industry equipment.
