What are the responsibilities and job description for the Delivery Driver- Lead position at Southwest Traders, Inc?
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead Drivers are responsible for supporting the transportation and delivery of products of drivers assigned to them while maintaining their own driving and delivery requirements. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
Supervising all drivers in their daily activities
Help drivers get on the road in a timely manner
Ensure that the delivery of frozen, chilled and dry products, are made to assigned locations within each drivers route in a timely manner
Check in all drivers when they return – Checking in all keys, paperwork, straps, fuel receipts, invoices and any money received during deliveries
Make sure trucks are clean and ready for the next day’s deliveries
Schedule truck repairs when needed
Communicate to management any problems that may arise whether it has been resolved or not
Keep all paperwork in order and make sure all information has been properly filled out by all drivers
Ride along with drivers to provide evaluations to management when necessary
Periodically follow drivers on routes to make sure they are working and driving in a safe manner
Fill in for Lead warehouse employees when necessary, supervising staff and ensuring proper policies and procedures are being followed at all times
Perform Pre & Post trip inspections and maintain proper cold environment within delivery trailer
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Processing all necessary paperwork on a daily basis
Ensuring proper upkeep of company vehicles and communicating with management on any issues
Ensure all drivers have their paperwork, keys to stores, straps, hand truck and any special instructions needed for the day
Communicate with drivers throughout the day to answer questions and provide general direction
Help resolve service complaints when able and maintain effective communication with all departments to help maintain customer satisfaction
If any accidents or injuries occur, make sure that all forms are filled out immediately and management is notified
Ensure all drivers logs and DVIR’s are entered, in order and up to date
Run routes for drivers that miss work (while completing all other assigned duties as required)
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Have at least 5 years driving experience (preferably with food delivery experience)
Must possess basic math skills
The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, local area maps, driver handbook, invoices and credit memos
Have strong customer service skills
Capable of lifting up to 80 lbs. and know how to use a pallet jack and 2-wheel cart.
Current Class A driver license
Copy of medical card and copy of current DMV printout
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma and a minimum of five years class “A” driving experience (preferably with food delivery & route driving experience)
WORKING CONDITIONS
Long hours spent driving, walking, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing and pulling heavy items on a cart both up and down ramps, stairs, service elevators, etc. Climbing in and out of a large commercial vehicle repeatedly throughout the day. Exposure to adverse climate conditions (hot, cold and wet).
