SouthWest Transit is an award-winning public transit agency serving the core areas of Chaska, Chanhassen, and Eden Prairie. We currently offer express bus service to and from Downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, and Normandale Community College as well as daily on-demand micro-transit service in our core service area as well as adjacent cities in Carver, Scott, and Hennepin counties. In addition to our regular services, we also offer seasonal services including the Minnesota State Fair, Twins Express, Vikings Express, Gophers Express, select concerts, and more.

The IT Intern will support the agency’s ongoing technology initiatives by conducting audits of IT equipment on transit vehicles, assisting with software implementation projects, and completing essential IT support tasks such as inventory tracking and equipment organization.

The IT Intern will support the agency’s ongoing technology initiatives by conducting audits of IT equipment on transit vehicles, assisting with software implementation projects, and completing essential IT support tasks such as inventory tracking and equipment organization.

- Conduct IT audits on transit vehicles to assess equipment functionality and configuration (e.g., mobile data terminals, GPS units, fare collection tech)
- Assist with the rollout of new software systems, including testing, documentation, and user support
- Perform IT support tasks, such as:
- Inventorying and labeling equipment
- Organizing IT storage areas
- Imaging and setting up computers or tablets
- Collaborate with IT staff on troubleshooting and documentation
- Update and maintain records of IT assets and audit results
- Provide project support-participate in IT projects, help with project planning, and provide support for implementation
- Conduct research on new technologies, tools, and best practices to improve IT processes
- Assist with taking meeting notes and recording action items/next steps
- Other duties as assigned
- Entering junior year or higher in an undergraduate program or currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Basic knowledge of hardware and software systems
- Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Android, etc.) and common applications
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
