Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is currently accepting applications for hourly EMS Instructors. This position is for EMS courses at all levels, including EMT, AEMT and Paramedic. Responsibilities will include delivering didactic and practical skill sessions according to National EMS Education Standards, conducting cognitive, psychomotor, and effective assessments, and managing various classroom activities pertaining to EMS education. Some travel may be required.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of lecture and laboratory demonstration of EMS subject matter at EMT through Paramedic level
- Knowledge of preparation and delivery of required course content
- Ability to use instructional technologies
- Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
- Current EMS certification
- Must be able to pass a criminal background screening
- At least one year of Basic and Advanced life support level EMS teaching experience
- AHA Instructor Certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS)
- At least two years of previous advanced life support level experience as a pre-hospital EMS provider
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Provider certification
- Associate’s Degree with demonstrated competency in the teaching field
- Current National Registry Paramedic Certification
- Current Virginia Office of EMS Education Coordinator certification
