Southwest Virginia Community College (Southwest) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking a candidate to fill the role of Financial Aid Specialist. The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for assisting in the financial aid process for students in a timely, accurate, and professional manner that positively impacts college operations. This position coordinates with the Federal Work study program by hiring, placing and tracking federal work study students. The position will be responsible for evaluating financial aid options that are available to a student and determine which available funding would maximize the student’s financial aid resources.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate Degree in Accounting, Management, or related field.
- Professionalism essential to deal with the public effectively.
- Knowledge of the PeopleSoft SIS modules of Financial Aid.
- Knowledge of VCCS financial aid policies and procedures.
- Ability to run, compile, analyze, and prepare documents and reports accurately.
- Ability to interact effectively with the public and perform quality work under pressure.
- Ability to analyze and interpret information for reporting purposes.
- Ability to effectively communicate with the public.
- Ability to utilize front-line decision-making skills in the areas of VCCS financial aid policies and procedures and the PeopleSoft SIS modules of Financial Aid Advising.
- Ability to maintain a high level of ethics and confidentiality in performance of all job duties.
- Experience in a higher education financial services area
