Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Diagnostic Medical Sonography Lab Instructor to join our team. The successful candidate will assist the Sonography Program Coordinator in the on-campus lab setting. They will possess a strong background in abdominal and OB/GYN sonography and a passion for teaching. This role involves providing comprehensive practical instruction and hands-on training to students, preparing them for successful careers as diagnostic medical sonographers.
JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: In cooperation with the sonography program coordinator, this individual will perform the following tasks, including but not limited to:
- Provide hands-on training for diagnostic medical sonography students.
- Demonstrate and teach the use of diagnostic ultrasound equipment and techniques.
- Create and implement lab activities that complement the curriculum and meet learning objectives.
- Evaluate student performance and provide feedback to facilitate their development.
- Ensure a safe and efficient lab environment, maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Work with faculty to integrate lab instruction.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in diagnostic medical sonography.
- Provide instruction, evaluate students, document progress, and periodically review course content.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Familiarity with program goals and the ability to develop an organized plan of instruction and evaluation.
- Must be registered through the American Registry in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), Certification in Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN).
- Must have at least an associate’s degree; however, a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Two years of related occupational experience.
- Be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty and staff, and other stakeholders important to the college;
- Be proficient with computer technology, including use of a PC and relevant software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc;
- Be proficient in oral and written communication in the English language; and
- Have an acceptable background check upon offer of the position.
